Feifer menyebutkan bahwa ia kehilangan buku miliknya sendiri. Ia meminjamkan buku miliknya – dengan beberapa catatan tulisan tangannya sendiri – kepada temannya, yang kemudian kehilangan buku itu di suatu tempat di London. Kata 'tsunami' berasal dari bahasa Jepang, dan diterjemahkan sebagai 'gelombang pelabuhan'. Tsunami dulu disebut 'gelombang pasang', tetapi istilah tersebut penggunaannya oleh ilmuwan telah bergeser.


1. Tsunami terdiri dari serangkaian gelombang yang dikenal sebagai kereta gelombang, bukan gelombang tunggal. Untuk tsunami yang besar, gelombang ini tiba-tiba dan yang pertama tidak selalu yang terbesar.

2. Sebagian besar tsunami disebabkan oleh gempa bumi bawah laut. Gempa bumi berkekuatan 8,0 sebagai penyebab bencana Samoa, menurut US Geological Survey. Sebuah gempa bumi bisa menyebabkan tsunami jika memiliki kekuatan yang cukup dan berada di kedalaman air yang memadai.
